Obituary of Harold G. Kelly

Harold G. Kelly, 93, of Clifton Park died on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. He was born on July 10, 1923 in Troy and was the son of the late G. Warren and Agnes Kelly. Harold was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1941. He also attended Siena College. Harold was a veteran of World War II and served in France, Belgium and Germany. He also served near the Battle of the Bulge among many other conflicts. He was a technical sergeant with the Ninth Army, 554th Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Company. He was honorably discharged. Harold worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for over 40 years, retiring as the District Manager of the Schenectady office in 1982. He began his career as a meter reader in Troy and rose through the management ranks in the company’s Hudson, Saratoga Springs and Fort Plain offices. Harold was President of the Schenectady United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. He coached baseball and played in the Troy Babe Ruth League. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed many sports-golf, baseball, bowling, ice skating, basketball and horseracing.
A kind and gentleman, Harold also loved cats, flowers, birdwatching and reading about history. A devoted husband of 64 years to Elaine S. Kelly, who predeceased him on March 8, 2016. Harold also loved his three children, Kristine Kelly, Ph.D., Karl Kelly (fiancé Nancy Murtha) and Kim Kelly. He also loved Nancy’s three children, George (fiancé Amanda), Carrie (fiancé James) and Will (Ashley). Harold was predeceased by his two brothers, Warren W. Kelly (Kathryn) and Erwin Kelly (Connie of Latham).
Funeral will be held Friday Mar. 17, 2017 at 10:30 am from St. George’s Episcopal Church, 912 Route 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm Thursday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville at 12 noon following the church service..
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, specific for cats, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204 or to the National World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St. New Orleans, Louisiana 70130.
