Obituary of John Anthony Lewis

John Anthony Lewis, 72, of Troy, beloved husband of Judy E. Wilson Lewis of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life in the early morning hours of New Years Eve day, Tuesday, December 31, 2019. Born in Abbeyville, GA, he was the son of the late Dellamay Lewis Smith and the late William Harris. John was a decorated Unites States Marine Corps veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was recipient of the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Service Medal with clusters and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Lewis retired from Owens Corning in Delmar where he was an accomplished machinist and had previously been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal as a Machine & Tool Die Maker. John liked music, fishing, playing various card games with his friends and loved his Jeep. He was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy and of the Corporal William A. Dickerson VFW Post in Troy. He and Judy have spent 42 wonderful years together and have raised four beautiful children who survive; Serita Lewis-Adjin, Lakey N. Lewis (Lawrence Gostkowski), Cerrone A. Lewis (Kate Wells), all of Troy and John A. Lewis, Jr. (Danielle Mango) of Ballston Spa, cherished grandfather of Ni-Ahsia Lewis-Collins, Cerrone Lewis, Jr., Chase Lewis and Ariel Lewis, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John was the eldest of 11 children. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 and to the Funeral Service in Church that morning which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will full military honors will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. The Lewis family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the Stratton VA Medical Center Dialysis Unit as well as to the ICU nurses and staff for their loving and compassionate care. The family desires that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to do so to their favorite local veteran’s organization, in memory of John Anthony Lewis.
