Obituary of Frederick J. Austin, Jr.
Frederick J. “Fred” Austin, Jr., 92, formerly of Lansingburgh, Amsterdam, Palatine Bridge and Glenville, beloved husband of over 47 years to Doris A. Austin until her passing on December 10, 2018, peacefully entered into eternal life at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna Mueller Austin.
Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal 5 Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 Star and the Victory Medal.
Mr. Austin retired from General Electric in Schenectady.
Fred loved RPI and Union College Hockey and watching professional hockey and was a lifelong New York METS baseball fan. He also enjoyed golf and bowling Fred was a member of the United States Navy Cruisers Sailors Association and the Loyal Order of the Moose..
Beloved husband of the late Doris, devoted father of Robert A. (Joyce Canzonieri) Coonradt of Mena, AR, Kevin Patrick (Linda) Coonradt of Amsterdam, Timothy A. (Denise) Coonradt of Sarasota, FL and the late Frederick J. “Rick” Austin, III, who is survived by his wife Elizabeth Tripp Austin of San Francisco, CA, father-in-law of Leslie Coonradt of Florida, cherished grandfather of Jeremy Coonradt, Rachael (Matthew) Fontaine, Peter Coonradt, Patricia (Douglas) Forman, Heather Coonradt, Candace (Brian) Frankel, Sidney Austin, Christopher Canzonieri, Jennifer Maechler and John Canzonieri, adored great grandfather of Douglas Forman, Jr., Mia, Chase and Landon Frankel, Jacob Maechler, Ashley Parnell and Daniel Maechler, loving great-great grandfather of Jonah Maechler and Maverick Parnell and the loving uncle of Arnie Lawrence and Bobby Brott, II.
Relatives and friends are invited to a calling hour on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (Corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 and to his funeral service at the funeral home that morning at 11:00 a.m. which will be followed by his interment with military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville at 12 Noon.
