Obituary of Norma D. Morris

Norma D. Morris, 92, of General’s Way and lifelong Halfmoon resident, died on Tuesday Oct. 23, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Halfmoon on March 17, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Merritt W. and Margaret Hatlee DeVoe.  She was a graduate of Waterford High School, class of 1943 and Albany Business College.  Norma was the beloved wife of the late Gerald “Jud” E. Morris, whom she married on Oct. 19, 1946.  She retired in 1978 from Community State Bank in Albany as an assistant bank manager, having worked for about 15 years. In earlier years, She and her husband operated Wee Willie Winkle Snack Bar in Halfmoon.  As a lifelong resident, Norma’s family dates back to the late 1600’s in Halfmoon, NY. She was a charter member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, Halfmoon American Legion Mohawk Post #1450 Ladies Auxiliary, the Halfmoon Senior Citizen Association and the Halfmoon Historical Society.  As an active member of her church, Norma was a Past President of the Cecilia MacIntyre Circle Women’s group and the United Methodist Women.  She was an avid golfer and NY Yankees fan.  She was an active member of the Halfmoon Republican Committee.  She was the recipient of a Senior Lifetime Achievement Award of the capital district.

She is the devoted mother of Nancy L. Morris of Halfmoon; sister of Lawrence W. (Vaughn) DeVoe of Halfmoon; aunt of Lynn Warn, Dolly Jordan, Cheryl McGivern, Cindy Baker, Craig DeVoe, Terri DeVoe, Joy Mein, Kyle DeVoe, Christy Pawlak, Alan DeVoe and Beverly Emerick; she is also survived by her niece-in-law, Noella Morris and several great nieces, nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held on Monday Oct. 29, 2018 at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Rt. 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065 at 10:00 a.m.

Calling hours will be from 2-6 pm Sunday, Oct. 28 in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt.9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church or to the Halfmoon Senior Citizens, 287 Lower Newtown Rd. Waterford, NY 12188

Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.
