Obituary of Frederick R. Ames
Frederick R. Ames, 87, of Clifton Park, peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, May 6, 2018.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Alexander and Helen Reynard Ames and the beloved husband of over 57 years of Anne Mary Elizabeth Cooley Ames until her passing on December 13, 2006. He graduated St. Patrick's School, CCHS, Class of 1948 and earned his BA in Business Administration from Siena College and his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Albany. He received his Honorable Discharge for his service as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in the NYS Army National Guard on May 31, 1990. He entered service on 23 June 1948.
Mr. Ames retired after a 26 year career in 1994 from the NYS Division of Budget where he held the position of Chief Budget Examiner. He had previously been employed as an Administrative Technician for 17 years with the NYS Army National Guard in Troy, Albany and Latham.
Along with his wife Anne Mary, he traveled in their RV throughout 49 states as well as through Europe and South America and was able to travel to Hawaii, his 50th state along with his granddaughter Jennifer. He continued to enjoy traveling with his companion Liz to various destinations. He also continued to enjoy summering at his home in Dennis on Cape Cod for over 31 years.
Mr. Ames was a longtime communicant, Catechist, Eucharist Minister, Lector at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh where he had also been a 10 year volunteer in their Pre-Cana program, a participant in their Marriage Encounter program for over 15 years and served as Chairman of the Faith Formation Committee. He had been a member of the Capital District Chapter of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) where he served as Treasurer, was a member of the Waterford Council of the K of C where he served as a Past Grand Knight and Financial Secretary for 8 years, volunteered teaching Mathematics at the Capital City Rescue Mission Learning Center in Albany and was a member, having held the Office of Executive Vice President, Co-Chair of the Community Lobby Network and Board Member with the RPEA (Retired Public Employees Association).

(Kathy) Ames of Malta, Michael Ames of Schroon Lake, Karin (Michael) Harney of Somerset, MA, Kathleen (Alden) Saddlemire of Clifton Park, Annemarie Ames of Latham, Constance (Dawn) Ames of Wilmington, NC and Anthony (Renee) Ames of Newburyport, MA; brother of Alex Ames of Selden, NY, Carol Ames of Riverside, CA and the late Constance Dormady, cherished grandfather of Adam (Dana) Ames, Patrick Ames, Christina Rifflebach, Nicole (Josh) Bull, Michael (Jessica) Ames, Matthew (Julie) Ames, Daniel Ames, Jennifer (Mike) Mazujian, Katherine (Matthew) Verrico, James and Anna Saddlemire, Nicholas Caola, Anna Katherine "AnnieKate" Ames and Jonathan "Jackie" Ames, great grandfather of Addison, Jeremy, Alexis, Ashley, Alexandra, Aiden, Easton, Jacob, Royal, Bryce, Finn and Jack, great-great grandfather of Valerie and Kaiser, also survived by his companion Elizabeth "Liz" Stevens of Scotia and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 thence to St. Augustine's Church where at 9:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 P.M.
Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the St. Augustine's Church Heritage Fund, 25-115th Street, Troy, NY 12182, in memory of Frederick R. Ames.
