Obituary of Robert Kelly, Sr.
Robert "Bob" William Kelly, Sr., 88, entered into eternal life peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday March 11, 2018. Born in Troy, he is the son of the late George and Bertha Keeler Kelly.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Alaska from 1953 to 1955. After serving his country he enjoyed a distinguished career as a Civil Engineer for the State of New York where he supervised construction projects for the Office of General Services in the Northern district. He helped shape the face of the Capital Region as a member of the team that constructed the Empire State Plaza, the Harriman Campus site, numerous state prison facilities and SUNY campuses. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Troy. He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute (1946) Siena College (1950), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1953) and had degrees in both Physics and Civil Engineering.
He was a member of the Country Club of Troy for over 60 years and served on their Board of Governors for a number of years. He enjoyed tennis, was an avid golfer and a member of the Senior Golfers’ Association of eastern New York. He was a lifetime communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy until it's closing, and later a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. He was actively involved with St. Mary’s Hospital where he served on their Advisory Board. He loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and trips with his beloved wife TeeCee, his annual family summer vacation to Maine and winters in Naples, Fla.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed dearly. He will be remembered as a true gentleman with a quick wit and kind and generous way.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Therese "TeeCee" F. Kelly in 2014. He is the cherished father of Robert W. (Sharon) Kelly Jr. of Queensbury, Edmund F. (Jacqueline) Kelly of Milford, N.H., Elizabeth Kelly Anthony of Troy, Margaret (Daniel) Hassett of Longmont, Co; brother of the late George Kelly; proud grandfather of Donald (Andrea) Anthony, Meghan (Ryan) Palmison , Alexandra Anthony, Robert (Kate) Kelly III, Patrick Anthony, Andrew Kelly and Grace Kelly; and the great grandfather of Owen Palmison and Jack Kelly.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Ave. (at the corner of Marshland Ct.), Troy, NY 12180. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick St. on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern NY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
