Obituary of Jacqueline Martha Hickcox Cummings
Jacqueline Martha Hickcox Cummings, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at home at Coburg Village in Rexford.
Jackie was born in Schenectady, NY on October 13, 1925, the daughter of Raymond John Hickcox and Martha Jane Meyers Hickcox. Jackie graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended Purdue University as well as Mildred Elley Secretarial School.
In 1950, Jackie married Charles Carroll Cummings and they began their 64 years of married life together in New York City. Upon her husband’s completion of art school, they moved back to the Schenectady area, eventually to Clifton Knolls, where they raised their two daughters.
Jackie was a devoted member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Clifton Park, serving there as a member of both the Church Altar Guild and Daughters of the King. She formerly was a member of the Executive Council of the PTA of Shenendehowa schools, which her daughters attended. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, making trips to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. However, her favorite vacation spot continued to be the beaches of Cape Cod, which she visited annually with her husband and daughters (and later with her sons-in-law and grandchildren). Throughout her life, Jackie spent much of her time playing (and often winning at) bridge with a small number of cherished playing partners.
Jackie is predeceased by her brother Raymond John Hickcox, Jr., her husband Charles Carroll Cummings, her daughter Susan Lynn Cummings Pomeroy and her son-in-law Peter Edwards Nightingale.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Jacqueline Cummings and son-in-law Daniel Joseph Pomeroy, her two grandsons Andrew Cummings Nightingale and Scott Henshaw Nightingale, four granddaughters Jill Jacqueline Pomeroy, Grace Catherine Pomeroy, Mary Ceceilia Ray Pomeroy and Cathleen Cummings Pomeroy, her sister-in-law Elizabeth Hickcox and by two nieces and two nephews.
