Obituary of Lois Kirby Brownell
Lois Kirby Brownell, 87, of Chestnut Hill Road South, died on Wednesday August 30, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on June 22, 1930, Lois was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Louise Heywang Kirby. She was the beloved wife of Everett F. Brownell, whom she was married to for 60 years.
She was a graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School and SUNY Fredonia class of 1952 where she received her degree in teaching. In her early years, Lois had taught school in the Niagara Falls School District. She was a substitute teacher for over 50 years, working in the Shenendehowa, North Colonie, and East Greenbush school districts.
Lois had been a 4-H Leader and board member for Saratoga and Albany County 4-H for over 20 years. She was an usher at SPAC for 47 years. Lois and Everett enjoyed travel and family ski vacations. She loved gardening, hiking and spending time at their camp on Loon Lake. Devoted RPI hockey fans, she and Everett were season ticket holders. She was a member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her devoted children, Susan Brownell of Niskayuna, David (Emily) Brownell of Franklin, NY and Nancy (Ted) Gay of Kalispell, Montana; sister of the late Patricia Church; cherished grandmother of Corbin, Alex and Kirsten Brownell, Harry, Samantha and Laura Gay; great grandmother of Marlee Terpstra; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Wednesday Sept. 6, 2017 at 10:30 am in the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Rt. 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065 with Brother Paul McCue officiating.
Calling hours will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY on Wednesday at 12:30 pm.
