Obituary of Edwin William Palmer
Edwin W. Palmer, 96, of Plant Rd passed away at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls on Monday July 3, 2017 with his niece Roberta Breese and grandby, his niece Mariea Rousseau and Fr. Matt Baker at his side. Roberta was his caregiver. He was born on November 4, 1920 to Edwin E. and Augusta Wolf Palmer, on Munsell St. in Hoosick Falls. He and his family moved to upper Wilder Ave. Hoosick Falls. Edwin graduated in 1940 from the Walter A. Wood School in Hoosick Falls. Edwin first worked at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II. He then went to work at Wager’s Ice Cream Plant in Troy. He worked there for 14 years until it closed. Then he went to Sealtest Ice Cream Plant in Latham where he was a distribution manager until he retired after 37 years of service.
Edwin met Olive Bacheldor on a blind date. After a few dates he decided he better hang on to her. They were married on Sept. 23, 1944. They spent 72 wonderful years together. (What does that tell us), they were blessed with a son Glenn in 1955. Glenn died in 1981 from a drowning accident. Edwin enjoyed having a vegetable garden, mowing his lawn and just putting around the house. He enjoyed going out to eat and just sitting on their outdoor swing and recalling the past. Edwin is also preceded by his wife Olive in Oct. of 2016, his sister Augusta Palmer Shaw in 1953 and his grand nephew Gary Cramer.
He is survived by his special niece and care giver, Roberta (Robert) Breese of Hoosick Falls, grand niece Mariea (Brian) Rousseau of Hoosick Falls, Lisa Cramer Johnson of RI, grand nephew Richard (Mary) Bromirski of Georgia and a cousin, Norma Brenenstuhl of Hoosick Falls; brother-in-law of Fred Batcheldor of Halfmoon.
