Obituary of David J. O'Melia
David J. “Dave” O’Melia, 82, Troy Police Department Captain Retired, of Lansingburgh, beloved husband for 49 years of Irene E. Williams O’Melia of Lansingburgh, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.
David was born in Troy, NY and was the son of the late Joseph D. and Mildred Hinkle O’Melia. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and attended both Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Albany. Dave served in the United States Army as a Private from 1964 until completing his obligation in 1970 as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a decorated Marksman (Rifle) and received his Honorable Discharge.
Dave was a member of the Troy Police Department serving the citizens of the City of Troy for 48 years beginning as a Patrolman and being promoted through the ranks and retired as Captain. He had previously been employed at Mohawk Paper Co. in Cohoes.
Dave’s pride and joy was his black 1994 Corvette. He loved his backyard in-ground pool and also enjoyed using his computer too.
Captain O’Melia had been a member of the Troy PBA and Troy COATS.
Beloved husband for 49 years to Irene E. Williams O’Melia, devoted father of Joseph David (Kathleen) O’Melia of Pleasantdale, cherished Grandpa to Kevin Koblensky, Karen Koblensky, Kory Ratigan, Ryan O’Melia and Aiden O’Melia, brother of the late Paul E. O’Melia, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182 and to the Funeral Service on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. also in the funeral home.
Interment with Troy Police Department Honors and United States Army Honors will be held in St. John’s Cemetery, Troy.
The O’Melia family would like to express their sincere appreciation to St. Peter’s Hospital for their care of Dave.
