Delores B. Carter (Nana), 86, of Pleasantdale (Town of Schaghticoke), peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
Born in Washington, DC, Delores was the cherished daughter of the late Hillard Wheeler and Edith Jackson. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., and later pursued her education at Maria College in Albany.
Nana, as she was affectionately known, stood as the matriarch of her family, embodying a spirit of unwavering support for her loved ones, friends, and community throughout her life. She dedicated years of service to the New York State Department of Office of General Services and Highgate Manor Nursing Home, and touched the lives of many through her nurturing as a daycare provider.
A faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany (Colonie) and active in the Order of the Eastern Star and the Golden Divas, Nana found joy in various pursuits including interior design, shopping, traveling, and cooking. She had a deep love for gospel music and old school R&B, but above all, cherished moments spent with family and close friends.
Nana was predeceased by her beloved husband Wesley J. Carter, and two cherished children, Deborah R. Carter and Raymond E. Carter.
She is survived by her devoted children: Salone Carter (Cheryl), Tyrone M. Broady, and Wesley J. Carter, Jr.; loving sister of Hillard Wheeler, Jr. (Monica), Kevin Wheeler (Gwendolyn), and Glenda M. Wheeler Allen, Esq. (Kermitt) and the late John Galway and Eleanor Galway; cherished grandmother of Rashaad J. Carter Sr. , Michael Bryant, Kevin White, Tequan Broady, Salone Carter II, Shuron Carter, Jamel Carter, Tenisa Broady, Brandi Carter, Ashley Carter, Ph.D, and Tyree Tucker. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Nana also leaves behind her loving Goddaughters, Lisa Charity, Dorothy Pompey, Barbara Jackson, Queenesia Howard, Mia Martin, Kendra Smith, and Shedina Smith.
In addition to her loving family, Nana cherished her close friendships with Flossie Walker, Sybil Johnson, and Ida Mae Bradley, who brought her joy and companionship throughout her life. Their friendship was a source of comfort and laughter that Nana held dear to her heart.
