Obituary of Donald R. Ossenfort
Donald R. Ossenfort, 77, of Cheshire, MA, formerly of East Greenbush, NY was called home to the Lord on Saturday, April 20 at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Troy, NY to Richard and Martha Homiack Ossenfort.
He is survived by his children, Mark Ossenfort and wife Sandra, Tamara Carr and husband Brian and Lisa Lampron and husband Brian. He was blessed with his grandchildren, Nichole Navas (Angelo Navas), Katherine Ossenfort, Timothy Ossenfort, Rebekah Ossenfort, Dustin Carr, Kendrick Carr (Ada Carr), Kyralee Carr, Alex Murdock, Victoria Quackenbush (Joe Quackenbush) and great grandchildren, Angelina Navas, Carolina Navas, Ayden Ayala, Kendrick Ayala, Leonardo Carr, Jacob Murdock and Sophia Murdock. He also leaves behind his sister Betty O'Brian, several nieces and nephews and his loving wife, Althea Ossenfort. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 51 years, Brenda Johnson Ossenfort.
Don graduate from Tamarac High School in 1964. He was involved with Boy Scouts of America where he was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Eagle Scout receiving the Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow. He received an Associate’s Degree of Business Administration at Hudson Valley Community College.
He loved skiing, sailing, hockey and woodworking. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in January of 1985. He attended Berkshire Union Chapel and New Life Community Fellowship. He formerly attended Loudonville Community Church, Loudonville, NY where he served in the men's ministry, David's Mighty Men for 15 years coordinating Deep Sea Fishing Trips, Stand in the Gap (Promise Keepers) and Iron Sharpens Iron.
He was a member of Gideon International for over 20 years. He worked at Camp Pinnacle, Voorheesville, NY as Assistant Director for 3 years. He was a salesman for C & S Building Materials for 30 plus years serving Berkshire, MA, Rensselaer, NY and Columbia, NY counties.
He had a heart for the homeless and those struggling with addiction. He had several years of service at Hospitality House, an alcohol and drug rehab facility and he was a Chaplain at the Capitol City Rescue Mission for 3 years serving the homeless. He also served His Lord as Lay Pulpit Supply for many rural churches.
A Memorial service will be held at the West Stephentown Baptist Church, 1672 NY-43 on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. with a time to greet the family prior from 12 to 2 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
