Obituary of Alice J. Collopy Ellett
Alice J. Collopy Ellett, 95, of Waterford, beloved wife for 62 years of the late Charles J. “Bud” Ellett, entered peacefully into eternal life surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Alice was the first-born of two sets of twins born to Harry and Elizabeth Hope Collopy in Lansingburgh, where she grew up surrounded by a close community of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a graduate of St. Augustine’s School and Lansingburgh High School. She and her husband Bud were married at St. Augustine’s Church in 1950. They raised their six children in Lansingburgh above their business, Charles J. Ellett & Son Insurance and Real Estate. Little did she know the adventures that lay ahead of her with Bud, including trips to Hawai’i, Europe, South America, and many cruises on their family yacht, the Nancy Lynn. Over the years, they cruised up and down the Hudson River from the Montreal Expo, to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island, with all six children aboard.
Alice was a devoted wife and homemaker, and always active in her community. She shared her kindness and good humor as a volunteer and Board member in many organizations, including Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club, Lansingburgh School PTA, and Lansingburgh Historical Society. She was a founder of the Lansingburgh First and Second Avenue Association. She served for many years as a Board member and registrar for Wiawaka on Lake George. She was honored by Lasalle Institute as a 40 year volunteer in their Library. Her greatest devotion was to St. Augustine’s Church where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality, the Altar Society and served as a Lay minister.
Alice was the loving mother of Nancy (Kenneth N.) Crosby of Greenwich, Charles Jay “Chuck” (Norine Goodell) Ellett of Waterford, William Patrick “Bill” (Katherine Hild) of Mohrsville, PA, Thomas “Tom” (Gladys Vallespir) Ellett, PhD of Lake George, the late James T. Ellett and the late Linda Ellett, who is survived by her husband Donald Shore of Rock City Falls; sister of her late twin brother William (late, Patricia) Collopy and the late twins Beth (late, Jack) Collopy Evans and Thomas (late, Barbara) Collopy; Alice was also survived by eleven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mike); Erika (John); Allison (Landon); Emily (Chris); Tessa (Anton); Harrison; Christian; Alexander; Alicia (Matt); Janet; Maggie (Brian); twelve great grandchildren (Cooper, Nicholas, Lillian, Damian, Ellie, Penelope, Brian, Finnley, Charlie, Wyatt, Meredith, Bryce), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
