I am sorry to learn of CDR Bartis’ passing. I worked with him when he was at Lakehurst NJ to organize the Airshow at the base. He was always such a positive force, easy to work with even through challenges. May his memory be a blessing for his family and friends.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone”
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me — not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,”
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”
And that is dying.
Fair winds and following seas Rick. We love you and one day we will all be together again.
All our love to Lynne, Heather, Ricky and Michael, who was there waiting to hug his dad when Rick arrived in heaven.
Tom and Julie

Rick was a genuine friend and an authentic man dedicated to serving others. He always seemed to me so calm cool and collected, even when everyone else seemed to be under stress. Rick was selfless at helping others and I certainly benefited greatly from his knowledge, experience and judgment. He truly followed through and kept his word. I asked Rick to be the narrator at my Retirement Ceremony so that I could honor the friendship he had demonstrated and forever remember Rick’s role and impact in my life. May God’s breath forever fill your sails, my friend.

Mere words can not express the tremendous heartache and sorrow in Rick’s passing. Rick is a true American hero and patriot who loved his country, the Navy and his family. At CENTCOM Rick worked feverishly to safe guard the warfighters in Iraq and Afghanistan by advocating less lethal munitions to leaders who did not understand there capabilities or benefits. Because of Rick’s efforts tens of thousands of American servicemen and servicewomen came safely home.
Above that Rick was a great and true friend to me and Mariline - Rick will be forever missed but ALWAYS REMEMBERED.❤️

If you look in a dictionary under the term"Class Act" you would find a picture of Rick. As a Avenue A neighbor he was a stand-out with the entire Bartis Family. When I went to run the Honolulu Marathon Rick set up a tour of teh Pearl Harbor Memorial for me. He was so generious with his time and sharing his many connections there. His passing is a great loss becasue he was a great man. My prayer for his family and friends is the pain of our loss be surpassed by joy of memories made and shared with Rick. Rest in Peace my Friend.
