Obituary of Mary T. Welch
MARY T. WELCH
The village of Eagle Mills lost a long-standing resident on Tuesday February 23, 2021. Mary T. Welch, age 94, passed away peacefully at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Hoosick Falls. Before that she was at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls. She was born on February 14, 1927. She graduated from Catholic High School in 1945. She later married Joseph Leo Welch of Eagle Mills, NY. Mary and Joe raised 7 children in their Eagle Mills home. While still raising her children Mary took a job as an Emergency Department Technician at Samaritan Hospital where she worked for 25 years. Mary retired from Samaritan Hospital at the age of 65. With her hard work and dedication to the position Mary was named Employee of the Year in 1989. She spent her healthy retirement years traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Mary would see her working in the yard, enjoying her garden and being mostly outdoors. She met Mason Hubbard at the Senior Center in Grafton and they later married. They would go on to have 5 years of companionship and adventures until their age and health became a concern. Mason survives Mary and lives in Hoosick Falls.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Joe and grandson Jonathan. Mary is survived by her 7 children Arlene Watrobski of Charleston, SC, Joseph Welch III of Troy, Mary Toomajian of Eagle Mills , Nadine Smith of Simsbury, CT, Michele Kokkinos of Clifton Park, Peg Cipperly of Cropseyville and Matt Welch of Brunswick . Mary leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary truly lived her life to the fullest when her health allowed. Not much stopped her and her husband Joe from making sure their kids had everything they needed and more, even when times were tough. There were many trips to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, Farmers’ Museum, local ski resorts, many trips to the Catskill Game Farm, Lake George, Thatcher Park, Saratoga Park, trips to Grafton State Park too numerous to mention, trips to Maine and NYC for the World’s Fair. Mary even made it all the way to the Indianapolis 500 Race one year. Later in life when Mary met Mason Hubbard they continued the adventurous spirit and traveled locally in the Troy area and were even able to visit Charleston, SC. They found great companionship and made many friends while visiting Petersburg and Grafton Senior Centers.
Mary will be remembered for caring deeply for her children and their families. She was a mother who made you believe hard work paid off.
Mary was a faithful member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Wynantskill. She was a lifelong congregate of the former St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy NY.
The family would like to thank the Danforth Adult Care Center and The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility at Hoosick Falls for their outstanding care to Mary.
