Mary Rose Gabriella (DiBernardo) Pike, know to all as Marie, passed away Wednesday morning on December 9th, 2020 from Covid-19. She was living at the Glendale Nursing Home in Glenville NY. She was 87 years old, born on Dec 29th, 1932 in Granville NY. She was the daughter of the late Angelo & Jennie DiBernardo, proprietors of the Granville Restaurant where she worked in her youth.
She graduated from Granville High School then went on to be a registered nurse, graduating from Highland Nursing School, now University of Rochester as an RN. She worked for many years at the former Leonard Hospital in Lansingburgh then later went on to work in oncology at Samaritan in Troy retiring in 1999. Through her long nursing career, she became a charge nurse and while at Leonard she was the Nurses Union President. She fought hard for nurses’ rights. She was known as the neighborhood nurse, as whenever someone was injured, they would go to her for help. She was a faithful communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh. She enjoyed her weekly date nights with her husband Stan going to either Verdile’s in Lansingburgh or Smiths in Cohoes. After retiring she loved visiting and taking care of her grandchildren. She read to them constantly and enjoyed watching them play hockey, soccer & baseball, and she loved watching her granddaughters’ music & dance performances. She was wonderful Sunday cook, an avid speed reader, reading a book or two a day, loved an occasional Manhattan and most of all she was a GREAT, GREAT Mom!
Marie is predeceased by her husband Stan A. Pike of 66 years whom she cared for in his later years until he passed on September 4th, 2016 and her younger brother Frank DiBernardo.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her five children, Dr. Rosanne (Dr. Martin) Poe of Burlington, WI, Douglas (Regina) Pike of Guilderland NY, Nancie Pike (Greg Miller) of Niceville FL., Stan (Christine) Pike of Guilderland NY, Craig (Kelly) Pike of Sarasota FL, cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren Julianna & Aislinn Poe, Andrew Fairbank & Nicholas Pike, Cole, Bret & Garett Miller, Aidan & Dylan Pike, Carter Pike, Lindsay (Mike) Avarello and Robin (Jeremy) Roberts, a beloved sister Roseann and brother-in-law Raymond Fabian, sisters-in-law Mary DiBernardo and Geraldine Pike, and Brother-in-law Richard Pike.
