Lynne Kathryn Florio (Ashline)
November 1955 - April 2020
Lynne Kathryn Florio; beloved daughter, mother, Nonnie, sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 11, 2020. Her beautiful spirit was released after succumbing to complications following two surgeries to remove cancerous tumors. She bravely fought several bouts with cancer during her 64 years, always supported by the prayers and love of her family and friends.
Lynne is survived by her daughter Kaarn Florio (Anthony Romanzo) with grandson Eli Verbanic-Florio, and her son Alex Michael Florio, as well as her former husband and close friend, Alex Florio. She also leaves behind her brother Douglas Ashline (Suzanna), and sisters Tracey McQuay and Collette Syvertsen (Ken). She was loved by her nieces; Joelene Jones (Russell) and Rachel McQuay and nephews; Cheyene Ashline (Cate), Kyle McQuay (Gabrielle), Andrew and Morgan Syvertsen and great-nephew Emmitt Jones. Lynne’s parents, Leroy and Patricia Ashline, had previously passed.
As the matriarch of the family, Lynne loved gatherings and keeping traditions; from making signature meals to game nights, she made sure that each moment with her loved ones was cherished. Christmas was her favorite holiday, where she would transform her home to celebrate the true Spirit of Christmas, creating special memories that will live on with each of us forever.
Lynne was most at home in the outdoors. She loved paddling, exploring wildlife, snowshoeing, rock hunting and looking for treasures in nature. Lynne would take advantage of every season to go on camping trips, work on her beautiful gardens, be outside for a walk with her beloved dog Suki, and her favorite, a visit to Cape Cod. She loved sharing these adventures with those she held dear. Rainy days were always savored for a good book and late night sudoku, enjoying the sound and smell of the rain.
Being a Professor of Radiology, Lynne truly enjoyed her 20+ years of work at Hudson Valley Community College. She was adored and respected by her students and co-workers. In addition to being dedicated to her work, Lynne had a passion and advocated for animals and wildlife. She had served on the Board of the Wilton Wildlife Preserve, and also volunteered for other causes important to her.
In Lieu of flowers, Lynne would have wanted family and friends to have her memory live on by doing an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness, especially during these difficult times. She was a supporter of the National Wildlife Federation and Nature Conservancy, both of which contributions can be made in Lynne’s name and honor.
A celebration of Lynne’s life will be held at a future date, when social distancing restrictions are safely lifted. The COVID19 Virus kept us from being able to be with Lynne while she was hospitalized; please help in any way you can to stop the spread, so that we may gather to mourn our loss and to celebrate her beautiful soul.
