Obituary of Martha F. LeBel

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Martha Fleming “Marti” (Hodson) LeBel, 87, proud resident of Clifton Park, NY since 1969, passed away peacefully with family by her side at her residence on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Born in Winchester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Laura B. (Cobleigh) Hodson and was the beloved wife for 52 years to Raymond G. LeBel until his passing on March 30, 2012. Marti grew up in southern Maine.  She was a graduate of Deering High School, Class of 1956 in Portland, ME and earned her B.A. in Medical Technology in 1960 from the University of Maine (Orono).

Mrs. LeBel worked part-time as a medical technologist at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY for 37 years, from 1978-2015. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.  She had previously been employed at Springfield Hospital from 1961-1964 and at Hale Hospital in Haverhill, MA from 1960-1961.

Marti had a passion for animals.  She enjoyed caring for and riding her two Arabian horses, Pride and Cherie.  She loved her two Bernese Mountain dogs, Bridgette and Marquis, and enjoyed training them to be therapy dogs.  She was a member of the Schenectady Dog Training Club and Therapy Dogs International. She enjoyed volunteer therapy dog visits, especially to local colleges, and walking with other therapy dogs and their owners in parades.

A devoted mother to her three sons; R.A., Tom and Mic and their wives Cindy, Michelle and Katie, she also enjoyed her five cherished grandchildren, Amy (Tom), Luke, Camden, Marley and Remy.  She was the sister of Albert B. Hodson (Barbara) and the late Laura Cripps.

Marti had a great appreciation of her ancestry.  She took pride that her relatives had come over on the Mayflower and fought in the Revolutionary War and Civil War.  She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

She also had a love for sports.  Whether ringing her cowbell at her sons’ hockey games, competing in family football pools or watching every Red Sox game on TV, she was a true fan!

Marti loved her home and being outside in her yard.  Whether it was tidying up the pool, tending to her flowers, filling birdfeeders or raking leaves, she enjoyed staying busy and being physically active.

In keeping with Marti’s wishes, private funeral arrangements for her family have been entrusted to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.  She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Raymond at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the following for the wonderful care she received while being treated for congestive heart failure:  her doctors, especially Dr. Donohue and Dr. Castellano; the many caretakers at Ellis Hospital; the rehab specialists at St Mary’s in Amsterdam, NY; and Community Hospice, especially Andrea, Nicole and Colleen who provided personal care in her closing days.

Those who desire may make memorial contributions in honor of Martha F. LeBel to: The Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
