Obituary of Kenneth R. Smith

Kenneth R. “Smitty” Smith, 80, beloved husband of Linda M. Roy Smith, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving wife Linda, on Monday, June 16, 2025.

 

Born in Lansingburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Russell E. and Frances A. Hogan Smith and was a graduate of St. Augustine’s Academy, Lansingburgh High School, Hudson Valley Community College and the Zone 5 Police Academy.

 

Smitty began his career in Law Enforcement with the Troy Police Department prior to joining the ranks of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department where he served as a Sergeant retiring after 38 years. He was awarded a Medal of Valor for his efforts. He enjoyed classic cars, watching Westerns to include Gunsmoke and Laramie, was an avid reader and most of all loved spending time with Linda and the family.

 

He had been a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh where he had served as an Altar Boy in his youth.

 

Beloved husband of Linda, devoted father of Michael P. Smith, Tricia Smith-Messick and Eric Halloran, stepfather of Chad Kehn, Michael Kehn, Justine Cavotta and Jodylynn Parent, also survived by several grandchildren and two great grandchildren.    

 

A Mass of the Intentions in remembering Kenneth will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Kenneth R. Smith.
