For years he entered the Schaghticoke Fair's demolition derby. When he was younger, Larry enjoyed owning and driving Corvettes. He treasured riding his various Harley Davidson’s, and taking long trips with his friends. He also loved to attend and coordinate family clam steams and picnics. Larry was well known in Pittstown as he lived there all of his life. He attended St. Georges Catholic Church in Pittstown up until its closing.

He was predeceased by his parents, siblings - John (Jackie) McDermott, William McDermott, Carolyn Wein and Madeline LeBarron, and two godsons, James (Jimmy) Wein and Kevin LeBarron and nephew and namesake, Larry McDermott. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
